Personally, I’m the great fan of Wp due to its great features, versatility and just since it is SEO friendly if it's optimized well. These functions can be extremely essential to build an auction site. If you buy eBay like website programs many of them can't be changed after configuring.You can't add modules, plugins among others that may increase the look and functions of the site.
However, if you work with a WordPress auction template it is possible to change later on for style, Search engine optimization or online marketing reasons. That's the reason why I suggest to work with Wordpress.
